Anne Bretschneider

Soprano

... studied singing in Berlin and Milan. The soprano received singing lessons and musical and artistic inspiration from Beatrice Niehoff, Eberhard Büchner, Karan Armstrong, Ute Trekel-Burckhardt, Sonia Turchetta, Christine Schäfer, Krisztina Laki, Siegfried Lorenz, Sylvia Geszty, Barbara Bonney and Axel Bauni, among others.

Anne Bretschneider was a scholarship holder of the DOMS Foundation Zurich. She received the Tertianum Award for Young Artists and was a finalist in the International Robert Stolz Singing Competition and the Paul Lincke International Singing Competition on several occasions. At the Jan Kiepura International Singing Competition, she won the BühnenReif Prize for Young Singers.

In addition to the great masses and oratorios, her repertoire includes modern compositions as well as a wide variety of song and chamber music programmes. She sang on the soundtrack of the films Mission and Royal Affairs. Anne Bretschneider's operatic roles include Helena in Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Belinda in Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell and Euridice in Orfeo ed Euridice by Christoph Willibald Gluck.

Anne Bretschneider can be heard as a soloist on the CD released by Carus with Charles Gounod's Requiem in C and the Mass in D op. 86 by Antonín Dvořák.

On a tour of South America, she sang the soprano solo in Johannes Brahms' German Requiem with the Rundfunkchor Berlin at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.

Anne Bretschneider has performed as a soloist with the Berliner Philharmoniker in pieces by Arnold Schönberg and Luciano Berio under the direction of Sir Simon Rattle.

She regularly performs as a concert soloist in Germany and abroad.
