The Berlin-based soprano studied opera and concert singing at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music. Her first regular engagement took her to the Theater Vorpommern as Marzelline in Beethoven's Fidelio.
Since then she has been a welcome guest on many stages. She has not only shone in operas and concerts, but also in chamber music, in semi-staged literary singing evenings and in children's music theater.
The voice in all its facets became her passion. She has interpreted roles such as Susanna in Mozart's Marriage of Figaro, Gretel in Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel or the Queen of the Night in Mozart's The Magic Flute, and her concert repertoire ranges from Henry Purcell to Philip Glass, including Bach's Passions and cantatas, Handel's operas and oratorios and Philip Glass' Hydrogen Jukebox. She has also delighted hundreds of children by singing, dancing and playing. In the process, she has come to appreciate the collaboration of many creative minds. These include the Lautten Compagney, the Ensemble Oriol, the Neubrandenburger Philharmonie and conductors such as Ekkehard Klemm, Constantin Alex and Christian Kluttig.
She is particularly interested in performing unknown and little-performed works from after 1920, which she performs as a voice/flute duo. With the FrauenzimmerGesprechspiele ensemble, she has developed a vocal theater that puts female composers of the early modern period in Germany and Italy in the spotlight.
Birgit Wagner is also a qualified singing teacher and voice coach.
