Andrea Chudak

Soprano

... was born in Bad Saarow, Brandenburg. She began singing lessons at the age of eleven and later studied at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. Further studies took her to the Institute for Music Theatre at the Karlsruhe State University of Music. She devoted herself intensively to both concert and opera singing and deepened her studies with masterclasses with Peter Schreier and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, among others.

The soprano has won several prizes at national and international competitions, including the International Emmy Destinn Singing Competition in Budweis.

Since 2001, she has performed as a soloist at the opera houses in Karlsruhe, Kaiserslautern, Stuttgart, the Berlin State Opera and the Theater an der Wien. Concert engagements at home and abroad have seen her work with the Kunming Symphony Orchestra under Cheng Lei, the Berlin Symphony Orchestra under Gert Sell, the Philharmonie der Nationen under Justus Frantz, the Baden-Baden Philharmonic Orchestra under Werner Stiefel and Uwe Serr, the Vogtland Philharmonic Orchestra under Stefan Fraas, Jiri Malat and David Marlow, the Central Saxon Philharmonic Orchestra under Stefan Fraas and the Malmö Symphony Orchestra under Dario Salvi, among others.

Andrea Chudak's engagements include the Festival of European Music in the Meistersaal Berlin, the festival "Les Notes en Bulles" Auray (France), Klangwerkstatt - the Festival for New Music Berlin, the festival "Lied: Strahl 2007" in Kempten, the "Festival Schloss Britz " in Berlin and the 100° Festival Berlin. In the 2017/18 season, she was a permanent soloist at the Dresden Residence Concerts in the Dresden Zwinger, and since 2018 she has been a regular performer in the baroque programmes of the Berlin Residence Concerts at Charlottenburg Palace.

Ten internationally released CDs now document Andrea Chudak's musical oeuvre, of which Giacomo Meyerbeer - Lieder (BELLA MUSICA) and Giacomo Meyerbee - Sacred Works (NAXOS) have attracted the greatest international attention. Further complete opera and operetta recordings by Giacomo Meyerbeer and Johann Strauss will be released by NAXOS in the coming year. At least five CDs of church music and a double CD with works composed especially for her by Bo Wiget and Max Doehlemann, two composers living in Berlin, will be released by other labels in 2020.

Numerous composers have dedicated works to Andrea Chudak in the opera and concert realm, which she premieres, such as Bo Wiget, by whom she also recorded faltenwürfe, a song cycle for soprano and piano in 2017, Arnold Fritzsch, who has regularly composed chamber music and film music for her since 2005 and by whom she premiered the scenic oratorio Hadubrant in 2013. Max Doehlemann's puppet opera Frechheit and the opera Freud are planned for 2020.
